A Corner of Heaven in the Library

This month at Gingersnap Creations is about "Friendship". This week the challenge # is GC120 and it's a color challenge of Aqua, Purple and Blue. The month is also being sponsored by Viva La Vegas Stamps. The image I used on my bookmark is from  their plate 876. Come play with us and see what the Design Team has created for you!

I do so love to read and consider the characters in the books my friends. When I was young my grandmother would say"Gerri, stop reading and go outside." and like a good child, I listened and went outside. The only thing is that I sat under a tree and read some more. LOL.

To make this book mark I stamped, fussy cut and watercolored the young girl reading. I used some library book labels and cut them so they would appear to be a tall book case. Then painted them aqua, purple and blue. Some pen highlights came next. A fancy ribbon to tie and off with the sentiment "A Corner of Heaven" and it was complete.

Hope you'll find a friend where ever you go this week.
artfully yours, gerri

  4. Dear Gerri
I can relate to your story as I was that child. I never wanted to play outside, always choosing to sit inside with my books (or possibly my colouring books) and immerse myself in the tale before me. To this day books continue to be my friends as one of the biggest joys is finding that special read.
    An adorable bookmark.

  5. You've brought back so many pleasant memories with this lovely composition!
Every book is an adventure to young readers. We always gave and received books in our family when I was a little girl, and this is still part of our family's tradition of gift-giving.Trips to the library were seen as special, or sacred.
I guess if I had to sum up my impressions of your wrk here, I'd call it blissful. Very pretty. Such a bookmark might also make a lovely tag to go with a gift book.

  15. This is a delight--and it reminds me of my college days. I always loved books and the library, but the library at the university was so huge . . . I'd pull a book and sit down right in the aisle for a read!

  17. I tried for a couple days to leave comments but it kept kicking me off. It seems to be working with my iPad today. I wanted to comment on this piece especially because not only is it a lovely bookmark (I love how you created the bookshelves), but I have a similar story to yours & I thought that was great. My Mom used to kick me out of the house to play because I would be reading all the time, and she said I needed fresh air. So I'd take my book outside and pull out a lawn chair in the backyard to finish my book. Ha ha! I'm still an avid book reader and love to collect books. I never thought I'd go to a Nook, but I love having it when I travel. What about you? What's your take on ebooks? Crazy though, huh?!
